About Me

Mary Young studied the Violin in London at the Junior Royal College of Music, and Trinity College of Music. While there she studied with Eszter Boda Katona and Eileen Bell, and won the TCM Soloist competition performing Bartok second violin concerto in St John's Smith Square, and the Barberolli String Quartet Prize with the Tyler Quartet. She practiced many hours a day and enjoyed lunch on the roof of TCM overlooking the O2.

Mary now performs as a soloist and chamber musician, and has performed aboard many of the P&O and Fred Olsen ships with Pianist Merel van der Knoop. She regularly performs with Kings Chamber Orchestra as a soloist or section member.

Mary also records for various composers and artists, some of which has been featured on TV, such as the Littlewoods and Oatibix adverts, the Open Doors Christmas appeal film, and an advert featuring Serena Williams.

Mary regularly performs at weddings, proposals and events, many of which have happened at the Shard. Her favourite proposal moment was at a stables, playing for a couple who approached on horseback and then proposed in a field with champagne in hand.

Mary loves playing to residents and patients in care homes and hospitals. This varies from taking requests of Twinkle Twinkle, disney songs, or irish fiddle, to playing relaxing music in an infusion unit, to classical concerts where people can join in with instruments, dance, or just listen. Mary also loves making and editing videos, and is currently learning the Mandolin!
